What would Bruce Lee do about waterbirds?

I haven’t connected with waterbirds like I have with the rest. Flamingos have been the only true exception. And that’s because they look like long-legged milkshakes. I can only assume it has to do with the presence of waterbirds in large numbers in and around my city. Even before I had started birding, I used to see them in familiar areas – Pelicans, Herons, Egrets and Darters.

While they have won me over with their incredible ways, we still remain a bit distant. Not that these pescetarians should care, but it bothers me that there lies a disconnect. Like water, we should ebb and flow. Without inhibitions about our capacities to give and receive love. Now this is no reason to listen to me talk on SoundCloud again. These things just happen.

(There are two parts added to the playlist)

Birding season is about a month away. Birds from all over the world, including waterbirds, will be migrating to this part of India. They will be penciling the skies with their webbed feet, and fish-eating beaks. I hope we find each other, like water .

Swim with me
towards the changing hues
in the coldest of the ocean’s blue
or let me drift, like a deep-sea
creature
without a distress signal,
away from the surface of you.

  1. listening to the first track was more fun 🙂 I feel the distance brings the disconnection..? We can never be as close to these birds as we are with landbirds…except if we change our habitat from land to water..

    1. There sure is, GB. They seem as streamlined as falcons but it just baffles me why I can’t connect with them. I have since rubbished the common theory too. Mynahs are common, and I love them!

Also, do waders fall under the category of waterbirds?
